The Fȳrd

In the early Anglo-Saxon days, the fyrd (pronounced ‘ferd’ or ‘feared’) were free people who were called by their leaders to protect their homes and to support soldiers doing battle. The fyrd were made up of veteran soldiers, strong farmers, and even ordinary villagers; what they had in common was their goal of helping their people achieve victory.

At Denmark High School, our soccer supporters group is called The Fȳrd! The Fȳrd (always pronounced ‘the feared’) is made up of students, faculty, families, and community members whose goal is to help our Soccer Danes achieve victory on the pitch. The Fȳrd serves by attending matches, by cheering and chanting in the stands, and by showing team support and school spirit during school and events.
